Nice of you to stop by. This journal is a place for me to think out loud on various topics of little or no importance to anyone but me, a way to record my thoughts and memories and to show a few pictures for my far-off family and friends. Comments are welcome but screened--nothing personal, but there are some very silly people out there and this is, after all, my journal. :-)

While my life may seem traditional by some standards, I am not bound by traditional thought. Although I have a clearer sense of who I am and what I want from life now, I do not believe we should all be cut from the same cloth. Tolerance and acceptance is very important to me.

I am a dabbler. I have many interests and skills and don't necessarily focus on any one of them in particular, but I thoroughly enjoy my dabbling. If I had to pick, I'd say sewing and other needle arts would be at the top of my list. Gardening was always up there too but I haven't been able to do much gardening in the last few years due to health issues.

My life is quite busy, although I thought sharing an empty nest with my retired husband would be a little less hectic. Still, I wouldn't trade it--I'm more content than ever and know and love myself nowadays, and that was a long time coming.

I grew up in the city and could never in a million years imagine enjoying country life. Cities still appeal to me, but only to visit. I've lived in my share and now I love my mountain hideaway . . . but . . . if I had unlimited funds, I would travel the world.

Hubby (Monkey) and I work from home now and then and I am taking an online course because I finally decided what I want to be when ifI grow up. My kids will be referred to by their nicknames for their privacy: daughter Fuss, son Bear, stepsons The Professor and The Ninja. (Yes, he is a real Ninja.)

We now have the fewest pets we've had in years, only four dogs, twelve cats and seven fish in the pond. When the kids were living at home we had as many as four dogs, sixteen cats, fish indoors and outdoors, a rabbit, and well over a hundred chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. It was a great life for the kids. And the parents. And the animals.

Our pets are our four-legged children. We believe that animals depend on us for everything but all they want is love. We can't imagine life without our pets but especially now that the kids have moved out.

I am allergic to kittens and very, very allergic to horses.

I throw like a girl.

Almost Local Weather

The WeatherPixie

A Small Rivalry

My little town of Lillooet is not on the list of places that Weather Pixie has to choose from, but nearby Lytton is. I live halfway between Lillooet and Lytton; there has been a "friendly" rivalry for many years between the two towns regarding extremes in the weather which has been well documented in print, on the radio and television.

Lytton claimed to be "Canada's Hot Spot" as they had an official Environment Canada weather station but Lillooetans knew that their temperatures were often higher. Determined to prove their claims, funds were raised, a weather station purchased and installed.

The two towns would take turns being the Hot Spot, but Lytton has long been using it as a slogan and have gone so far as to have a actual Hot Spot.

Canada's Hotspot

One year in the early morning hours of April Fool's Day, under cover of darkness and, of course, the influence of alcohol, some friends persons unknown traveled to Lytton to relieve the town of the Hot Spot. In its place they left a chest freezer.

It was given a place of honour in Lillooet before it was eventually returned to Lytton; the prank put both towns in the media spotlight, on the radio and television news as well as newspapers.

When I first started tracking my visitors with this map it became apparent that it was definitely not picking up all my visitors because I know for a fact where at least some of them live and they are not showing up here. What's up with that? Here is my map anyway.
